The Beginning
My journey began at Aberdeen Snowsports Centre back in 2008 where I was booked into snowboard lessons. I had no idea back then that what I was about to embark on would shape the rest of my life. The lessons were fun and I quickly found myself looking forward to my weekly lessons. After my lesson on the nursery slope I would take a walk across to the Alpine Slope and watch the freestylers hit the kicker and rails. I spent the next few months bugging my instructors- begging them to allow me to move onto lessons on the Alpine Slope. This made me more determined and I worked hard on the skills I needed to move on to the next level.
Soon enough I got a snowboard for christmas and I was onto the Alpine slope where the Freestyle aspects of the lessons started to be introduced. I gained confidence and started using all the features on the dry slope. I then was invited along to the freestyle night where I met loads of people and many of them were students or staff at Aberdeen Snowsports Centre- I'm glad to say most of these people are now friends and have helped me along the way. I spent all the hours I could on the slope.
I started to enter a few local competitions which success so went on to travelling around the UK following competition tours such as the Westbeach series and the Burton Hi5! These competitions where a mixture of dry slope and snow dome competitions held all over the Uk as far as Halifax and Tamworth. I did well at these competitions and enjoyed meeting my friends from around the UK at these events so trained hard in-between to improve my results.
On Snow and competition experience
Over the next few years I spent my summers at the dry slope and winters supplementing my dry slope training with cruising the Scottish Mountains. Age 12 I sold some of my things to buy my first Glenshee season pass. My first European trip was to Alp D'Huez with my family for Christmas where I first experienced a European Freestyle Park. I travelled to Laax for the British Championships where I became British Freestyle Slopestyle Champion and British Halfpipe Champion for a number of years in both the kids and Youth Categories. When I was 12 I entered the Quiksilver RADAR competition and was invited to the UK filming event in Tamworth. I really enjoyed this and I was the only one selected from the UK to attend the finals in Tignes. The finals were great and this was the first time I met Jenny Jones, who my coach Ben Kinnear knew. Jenny had come along to watch me in the finals and I was happy with my second place.
The Burton European Open is one of Europes elite competitions which attracts an insane amount of talent. This was an event I wanted to attend. For 3 years I attended The Burton European Open junior slopestyle and halfpipe events and each year improving on my results. I attended in 2014 and I was stoked with coming 4th in slopestyle and 8th in Halfpipe.
World Rookie Tour is another european event which Ive always wanted to attend. Unfortunately in the past the dates for this tour have always clashed with something so my first event was the WRT Avoriaz, France event in February 2014 where I competed in both Slopestyle and Halfpipe. I came 2nd in Slopestyle and was stoked with 4th in Halfpipe.
Scottish Institute of Sport
In the summer of 2014 I was formerly selected to the Scottish Institute of Sport. This is such a big thing for me. The Institute provide me with their expertise of strength and conditioning, physiotherapists and many other specialised services which I may need along my way. Ive now been working alongside other Athletes in the gym ensuring Im as strong and healthy as I can be. This is a really rewarding part of my cross training and I appreciate all the time and effort these guys put in for me.

So in Autumn 2014 I received the news I thought Id only dream of. The news was that I was now selected to the Team GB freestyle Team which opens lots of doors for me in terms of competitions and training. I spent a week in October with the team and most recently traveled to Colorado to train for 2 weeks- this was the best trip yet. When we came off the slopes we trained in Woodward, a facility with trampolines and snowboards with wheels to hit wooden ramps into the foam pits. There was also a gym which I continued my strength and Conditioning programme. In all its really full on weeks when Im training and competing- finding the balance between training, relaxation and school- and I wouldn't change any of it.
The following week I attended the Aberdeen Sports Awards for which I was nominated for Young Achiever of the Year- My week was topped off by winning this award. The award night was great and I was surrounded by family, friends and coaches
The future
After school I will focus on being a full time athlete and travel the circuit as much as I can. Watching Team GB represent so well at the 2014 Olympics was nail biting stuff- waking up at 5am on school days to watch the events. Watching Jenny Jone win the Bronze medal was amazing! One day I would like to be involved in future Olympics and the X games these events are enough to keep me training hard and staying fit.
I hope you've enjoyed reading about me. Id like to thank everyone who has supported me - family, my coaches, support services, team mates, friends,The Governing Bodies, family and sponsors thank you for believing in me and encouraging me along the way.
If you are interested in learning to snowboard or improve your techniques. Check out the training you can do in the Uk on the dry slopes and snow domes. You'll find a rad community waiting for you.
